NEW MEXICO COTE

The AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE®) works to advance, disseminate, and advocate design practices that integrate built and natural systems and enhance both the design quality and environmental performance of the built environment.

NM AIA COTE’s Mission:

To advance sustainability across New Mexico’s AEC sector by fostering outreach, education, policy advocacy, and community engagement.

The NM AIA COTE Core Values are driven by the four pillars that comprise LEAD
 - Learning, Environment, Accessibility, and Design:

  • Learning/Knowledge

    • Our approach to learning and knowledge is centered on staying relevant and data-driven, using science-based, verifiable methods to inform decisions.

    • We embrace cutting-edge ideas while remaining supportive and helpful, taking into account the realistic constraints of New Mexico's resources, available funding, and firm's size.

    • We strive for high-quality, well-founded solutions that reflect a grounded optimism and a deep appreciation for nature.

  • Environment Focused

    • Our environmental focus is rooted in sustainability and practicality, promoting a healthy relationship with the natural world.

    • We aim to align with established frameworks like the AIA guidelines, addressing key factors such as energy, carbon, materials, water quality and quantity, air, soil, food systems, vegetation, and habitat.

    • We are also committed to fostering community wellness, social well-being, and resilience to weather impacts.

  • Accessible

    • Ensure accessibility and equity for all, including new members, busy practitioners, firms of all sizes, and related groups across New Mexico.

    • We aim to break down barriers, provide access, and empower individuals by promoting connections across the AEC industry.

    • There will be no fees or dues required to participate in the Committee.

  • Design Excellence

    • We are committed to driving design excellence and being a strong voice for the community.

    • We celebrate the successes of others within their existing workflows and advocate for new sustainability initiatives.

    • We develop guidance that leverages industry knowledge and the expertise of the committee to support innovation and best practices.
