COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course will use the experience of an architecture firm during the design and construction process to demonstrate the
complexities of building programming, restoration, site context, building systems, and other issues, all in the historic
context of the city of Santa Fe. The New Mexico Museum of Art is building a second location to house contemporary art.
The project is under construction and is slated for completion in late spring 2023. Located adjacent to the north end of
the Santa Fe Railyard (a large redevelopment area), the project will transform the former Halpin State Archives building
into the Vladem Contemporary, providing additional exhibition, education, and collections spaces to the Museum’s
current facilities. A CONSTRUCTION SITE TOUR RELEASE will need to be completed prior to attending the tour - be sure you get this completed. Email director@aiaabq.org with any questions.
